Vehicle Recycling in Ottawa — Responsible End-of-Life Car Recycling
When a vehicle reaches the end of its useful life, proper recycling is essential for protecting the environment and recovering valuable materials. CFT Group is Ottawa’s premier vehicle recycling facility, processing thousands of end-of-life cars, trucks, and SUVs each year in full compliance with Ontario and federal environmental regulations.
Our comprehensive vehicle recycling process ensures that up to 95% of your car’s materials are recovered and repurposed, keeping hazardous waste out of landfills and reducing the environmental impact of new metal production.
What Happens to Your Vehicle During Recycling?
At CFT Group, vehicle recycling is a carefully managed, multi-step process designed to maximize material recovery and minimize environmental harm.
Fluid Removal and Hazardous Material Extraction — The first step in recycling any vehicle is safely draining all fluids. This includes engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, coolant and antifreeze, windshield washer fluid, and residual fuel. These fluids are collected, stored, and disposed of or recycled according to Ontario Ministry of the Environment regulations. Additionally, hazardous components such as mercury switches, lead-acid batteries, airbag modules, and air conditioning refrigerants are carefully removed and processed through licensed hazardous waste channels.
Parts Salvage and Reuse — Before a vehicle is crushed, our technicians inspect it for reusable parts. Components in good working condition — such as engines, transmissions, alternators, starters, and body panels — may be salvaged for resale through our auto wrecking division. This extends the life of functional parts and reduces the demand for new manufacturing.
Shredding and Metal Recovery — Once all fluids, hazardous materials, and reusable parts have been removed, the vehicle shell is crushed and sent through industrial shredders. Powerful magnets and eddy current separators sort ferrous metals (steel, iron) from non-ferrous metals (aluminum, copper, zinc). These sorted metals are then baled and shipped to smelters and foundries where they’re melted down and turned into new products.
Non-Metal Material Processing — Modern vehicles contain significant amounts of plastic, rubber, glass, and fabric. CFT Group works with downstream recycling partners to recover and repurpose these materials wherever possible, including tire recycling, glass cullet recovery, and plastic pelletization.
Ontario Compliance and Environmental Standards
CFT Group operates in full compliance with all applicable Ontario and federal environmental regulations governing vehicle recycling. Our facilities hold all required permits and registrations. We maintain detailed records of all fluids and hazardous materials handled, conduct regular environmental audits, and follow best practices established by the Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC) and the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association (OARA). We take our environmental responsibilities seriously because responsible car recycling in Ottawa isn’t just good business — it’s essential for protecting our community.
